LafargeHolcim extending support to Indian Government for the fight against COVID-19

In a media statement today, Mr Neeraj Akhoury, CEO India, LafarageHolcim and CEO&MD, Ambuja Cements and Executive Director, ACC Ltd said, “As India valiantly braces the second wave of the pandemic, Ambuja Cements Limited and ACC Limited, the two operating entities of LafargeHolcim in India, are extending support to Government, employees, its communities and citizens in these turbulent and difficult times. 

Ambuja and ACC have promptly responded on the supply of Oxygen Cylinders (that has a finite amount of oxygen compressed and can be inhaled till it runs out) and Oxygen Concentrators (it is battery-run with a mechanism to filter and generate infinite medical grade oxygen).  300 oxygen concentrators of 10 litres each will be transported to Delhi government soon. 

LafargeHolcim India has also placed an order for procuring 100 oxygen concentrators of 10 litres each for its communities in three Rajasthan districts – Bundi, Pali and Nagaur where the three cement plants Lakheri, Rabriyawas, and Mundwa are located.

In addition, an oxygen-generating plant is being commissioned to be set-up in the premises of the district hospital in Nagaur in the vicinity of its Greenfield project at Mundwa in Rajasthan. With a capacity of 40-50 M3 and daily refilling of 175-200 cylinders, this plant is slated to be ready in the next three weeks.

Plans are afoot to set up similar oxygen generating plants in government hospitals near our Greenfield project site in Ametha (Madhya Pradesh) and cement plant at Tikaria (Uttar Pradesh).

Additionally, ACC Jamul plant in Chhattisgarh recently dispatched 150 Jumbo Oxygen Cylinders (~10,50,000 liters) to Government Medical College Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh).   

Supporting the Government’s COVID-19 vaccination programme, Ambuja Cement foundation (ACF), Ambuja’s CSR arm has facilitated the vaccination of over 75,000 beneficiaries in 1988 villages. 5,558 frontline health workers from ACF villages and 210 ACF staff have been vaccinated.   

ACF has been working closely with panchayats on creating awareness on the severity of virus and mobilising people for vaccination. also made arrangements for transportation, seating and drinking water stations during these drives. 117 number of oxygen cylinders have been provided to COVID-19 centres.

Currently, we are mapping requirement for oxygen concentrators. Information, education and communication materials on the new variants, reduction in illness, self-care in under process. Under the SAANS project women SHGs of ACF have made 20,000 face masks which is quality checked by IICT, Hyderabad. The ACC Jamul plant is also aggressively working towards mask production with the support of the Self Help group members.”
